Respite Solutions: The Faith Community�s role in family care giving. A conference for faith community leaders. Location:� Saxe Gothe Presbyterian Church, Lexington, S.C.
? RESPITE ?� is regular breaks from 24 hour care giving �of a person, of any age, who has special needs.
Why hold this conference?
To raise awareness of family caregivers across the entire lifespan who are in our midst and propose ideas for ministry to meet their respite needs. This is an acute physical and mental health issue for them and their spiritual needs can be neglected if we do not act.
What will you get from this conference?
Best practice solutions & creative ideas for congregations to serve caregivers. Ways to persuade and teach family caregivers to accept help. Ideas for inclusion of loved ones with disabilities and behavioral issues, so that family caregivers may worship and attend faith community activities. Inspiration to network with other faith groups, service organizations & denominations. Understanding the relationship of respite to child/adult abuse and neglect prevention.
Who should come?
Congregational leaders � women AND men, please. (Women can not do this alone!).� Pastors. Youth ministers/youth leaders. Those with interest in serving family caregivers & special populations. Pastoral visitors & other �gatekeepers� (including Steven�s ministers.) Parish nurses. Current & former family caregivers �driven� to start new programs for themselves & their peers.
